Press conference on latest Bassler encounter

Here is audio from the 8:00 PM press conference on today’s encounter with fugitive Aaron Bassler, in the mountainous woodlands outside the town of Fort Bragg.  (It might take a while to download, especially on dial-up.)  Approx. 32 minutes run-time:

Press Conf. Sept 29, 2011 by Jugglestone

A brief summary: According to Sheriff Tom Allman,  Bassler opened fire from a hundred yards on a trio of specially trained SWAT team deputies from Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, near the recent cabin break-ins around Northspur, fourteen miles east of Fort Bragg.  They returned fire and Bassler “appeared to disappear,” moving to a new position.  After a few minutes he opened fire again, and again shots were returned. Allman said the deputies fired a total of ten rounds in the gun battle, but could not confirm how many times the suspect had fired on them.

The three-member Alameda sheriff’s team was not injured. Bassler escaped, and he is now facing additional charges of three counts of attempted murder.

One Response to Press conference on latest Bassler encounter

  1. Marilyn Chellberg says:

I want to thank each and every person who is working to bring an end to this awful situation. We are praying for you.
My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones. May the Lord give you comfort and healing.
My brother was murdered in 1968, They never did find out who did it. Such a senseless death.

My heart also goes out to the family of Bassler, it has to be so hard on them. I know he had problems, but that is no excuse to murder anyone. I know a lot of people who have mental problems, but they don’t kill people. Justice must be done.
